From 1500 around the time the New World was discovered until 1900, the population of Native Americans plummented from about Ten Million to less than 300,000. Diseases brought by the Europeans such as smallpox, tuberculosis and venereal deseases killed. Massacers and murder played a big role.
The implementation of the Induan Removal Act despite ruled as unconstitutional by the Surpeme Court in the 1830’s and 1840’s resulted in the forced removal of Native Americans from the southeast to the Indian Territories , noiw Oklkahome. The numbers that died on that treck are comorable to the Battan Death March.
Indian Reservations originally authorised in the 1870’s were in reality nothing more that coincentration camps for many years. It was not until 1934 that the Indian New Deals started to make some positive changes.
